Friday Favorites: 6 Favorite Sunscreens for Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am serious about sunscreen. Why am I so serious? Both my great grandmother and mother were advocates for wearing sunscreen regularly.  My mother had very fair skin and would burn very easily, while my great grandmother loved the sun, but later had to deal with skin cancer lesions on her legs and face.  I learned that you shouldn't wait for a sunny day to put on sunscreen after I  got very burned at a track meet in high school, on a cloudy day.  Why would I should I put on sunscreen on a cloudy day?  I was wrong. Some people still don't get how important it is though. For instance, my dad thinks that he doesn't need to wear sunscreen unless it's hot outside, as if the heat has something to do with a sunburn.  UGH....It's a constant battle, met with eye rolls and griping.  He will never let me forget the day that he went into "Sam Fora" (how he pronounces Sephora....not sure why, but it makes us laugh) to get sunscreen at my urging.  He was so "embarrassed" because I made him go into a "chick store" (wait... you're telling me he never picked up...Read More
Monterey Tides Hotel

Monterey Tides Hotel Review, Monterey Area Hotel

I recently spent two days at the Monterey Tides Hotel in Monterey, California.  As some of you might know, I grew up in San Jose, California so my family would often drive south to Santa Cruz and Monterey for day trips.  I always remember passing by this hotel on the way to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium as a kid.  It was a Best Western then and now it is a more upscale Joie de Vivre Group owned hotel.    I fell in love with it's beachfront location and thought that it would be a fun place to stay, now as an adult I finally got the chance to check it out.   My first experience with the Monterey Tides Hotel as an adult was getting breakfast with my family a couple years ago and being pleasantly surprised by the renovations and the good food.  A made a mental note at that time that I needed to come back and spend a couple days at the hotel with my husband.  The hotel has a laid back beachy vibe and the staff was lovely and super helpful.  The time that we were there was during spring break, so the hotel was being...Read More

Sanctuary Beach Resort Review, Monterey Area Hotel

My husband and I spent three days and two nights at the Sanctuary Beach Resort in Marina, CA, just north of Monterey, CA.  We had a wonderful time and I would definitely recommend it for people that are looking for a quiet, restful, low-key get-away.   We were there at the end of March, which was during spring break so there were several families on the property, but it was still very quiet and tranquil. One of the nice things about the resort is that it has lots of Adirondack chairs overlooking the ocean so that you can watch the sunset in the evening.  They even do a bonfire every evening which was fun... and to top it off, the room has a s'mores kit with everything you need for the perfect evening around the fire.  The resort does have a pool and hot tub so that you can relax even when it’s chilly outside .... like it was when we were there. We were lucky enough to get an ocean view suite on the second floor, so the view was spectacular.  We enjoyed watching the sunset from the room every night.    [caption id="attachment_2722" align="aligncenter" width="900"] The resort has Adirondack chairs...Read More
Smile Brilliant, At Home Teeth Whitening

Easy At Home Teeth Whitening for the Coffee Lover PLUS Giveaway

This week I'm doing a review of the Smile Brilliant at home Teeth Whitening system.  They sent me a free trial of their product to check out and review. I’ll admit that I was originally hesitant because if you’re like me, tooth sensitivity is the one thing I absolutely dread when whitening my teeth. I’ve had some whitening procedures in the past, including lasers at the dentist office, but it was either ineffective or my teeth were so sensitive it hurt to eat and drink for days….good for the diet but nobody wants to be in pain for days with sensitive teeth. Fortunately, Smile Brilliant has it all figured out, each kit comes complete with a proprietary whitening agent and a very effective desensitizing gel for post whitening sensitivity. At first I was worried that I would not be able to fit the whitening into my busy schedule. Smile Brilliant recommends whitening before you go to bed, but if you go out a lot in the evenings like I do, that won’t really work. Adding an extra 1 hour + of whitening to my already extensive pre-bedtime ritual would probably result in me waking up the next morning with the trays...Read More

Onyx Youth Magnetic Mask Review

This week I'm doing a review of the Onyx Youth Magnetic Mask.  I was gifted this item by Onyx Youth and they asked me to do an honest review for you.  I've seen other magnet mask videos on Youtube and Facebook and I was intrigued, so when Onyx Youth reached out to me I said "Yes!".   The mask is made in Korea and contains a unique blend of botanical oils, volcanic minerals and amino acids.  Onyx Youth is an iron-rich formula which is removed with a powerful magnet that lifts impurities and rejuvenates skin. This mask is different than the charcoal masks that rip off your skin when they come off, we've all seen the horrible videos.  This mask was smooth when applied to the skin and came off very easily with the magnet (provided in the mask kit).  I was a bit worried that the botanical oils would make me break out, but it didn't.  They recommend that you rub in the botanical oils after taking off the mask, but I found it to be a bit heavy for my oily skin so I washed my face afterwords.  My skin looked great after the mask and my breakouts continued to improve...Read More
