• Banana Buckwheat Pancakes

This week I am making banana buckwheat pancakes. This recipe only uses buckwheat flour so it’s naturally gluten-free as there are no other flours needed.   That is one of my favorite things about these pancakes.  Buckwheat flour makes a very nice, yet hearty pancake. Buckwheat is an ancient grain, and it has a lot of natural fiber and nutrients that you don’t find in a regular pancake. I like to add bananas to the pancakes to make them just a teeny bit more moist, not that they’re dry. You can always add any other fruit that you like, if bananas aren’t your favorite, such as blueberries or strawberries.  I personally like bananas because they remind me of my great-grandmother, Mema. These pancakes remind me a lot of her. I was about 7 when I first went to visit my 75+ year old great-grandparents in Kona, Hawaii and they had to… Read More

  • Highlights from the Gluten Free Expo

This past weekend I went to the Celiac Disease Foundation’s Gluten Free Expo in Pasadena, California. I found some really great products that I wanted to let you know about.  I spoke with Steven Rice of Authentic Foods to talk about his gluten free flours, Ashley Khteian from Dare Foods to find out about the new gluten free Breton Crackers, as well as Evan from Cheerios….have you hear they are going fully gluten free?  You can read more below OR watch  Gluten Free Avenger Episode 13:  Highlights from the Gluten Free Expo– by clicking below or using this link in your browser- http://youtu.be/WxpajWSFDcA I spoke with Steven Rice of Authentic Food and he has made a gluten-free flour that he says mimics wheat flour. • Spiked Seltzer Review

Spiked seltzer asked me to taste their beverages and I thought I would do a video review for you. Spiked Seltzer is a gluten-free, all-natural, low carb beverage with 6% alcohol. I found them to be very refreshing and crisp, with a light fruity flavor that wasn’t too sweet or overpowering.  They would be a great accompaniment to a salad or other light fare. I would definitely bring some to a picnic or to the beach to enjoy with friends. Here is a link to learn more information and to find out where you can find them in your are: https://www.bonandvivspikedseltzer.com/ I hope you enjoy them. I know I did! • Tortilla Soup

This week I’m sharing one of my favorite recipes with you Chicken Tortilla Soup, which is naturally (or at least it should be) gluten free. There are many of different ways and recipes for making Tortilla Soup.  I like this recipe because it doesn’t take as long as most recipes and a lot of the work is done for you in a blender or food processor.  I was joined by my fellow Lipstick Sisters Stephanie Kwong and Lisa Kiyomi in the making of my YouTube video too.  We had such a great time sharing stories, bonding over food and enjoying the delicious rewards of our work (scroll to the bottom for some photos from the set).  Please let me know if you try the recipe and what you think.
